NASHVILLE-The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation arrested four individuals for assaulting a male patient at the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute located on Stewarts Ferry Pike in Nashville.

In May of 2013, TBI was requested by Commissioner Doug Varney to conduct an investigation into an incident where a patient was assaulted. The investigation revealed that the former employees, who were psychiatric technicians at the time, kicked the patient in the face and struck the patient multiple times in the chest. The patient was housed at the facility for a court ordered competency evaluation.

On March 21, 2014, the case was presented to a Davidson County Grand Jury, who returned indictments for all four former employees. They all have been charged with Assault and Official Oppression. They were taken into custody March 24th by TBI Special Agents with assistance from Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and Gallatin Police Department. All four individuals were booked into the Davidson County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
